Noise
Large HVAC systems make constant noise
Grow facilities are large energy intensive factories that rely on industrial HVAC systems and artificial lights
As plants grow they transpire, adding humidity into the air
The lights add heat
Co2 is used to help plants grow
Industrial HVAC facilities are needed to create an optimal growing environment and maintain safe levels of Co2 for humans.
The 518 facility plan to use 31 units (13 air handling units and 18 condensing units) which will emit approximately 50 decibels of low frequency sound 24 hours a day, 365 days a year
When playing back the volume should be set equal to a low speaking voice to get close to the NJ nighttime sound limits at 50dB. Due to the low frequencies, phone or computer speakers will not be able to reproduce the sound fully. Home stereo or even an Alexa should be able to get close.
Do you want to hear this all day and night?
Commercial noise allowed in residential area 24 hours a day 365 days a week
The chart below shows the expected sound levels taken from the GMNJ application from four location compared to allowed limits.
The expected sounds are based on manufacturer data which likely assumes that all units are running in optimal new condition.
Note that the Residential Limit is 50 decibels. These limits are set by the state. West Amwell has no specific limits.
The closest residence on the South Side is less than 50 feet away and will be subjected to these sounds 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, except when the generator is running Then they will be higher!
Imagine moving into a quiet residential neighborhood with a church across the street that holds services on Sundays and then being subjected to this sound. Those houses are in a residential zone.
There are NO BUFFER ZONES in the zoning which means that you don't need to live in a permitted zone to be affected. Small facilities are even allowed in Residential areas.
